Channel Letter Signs | Neon and LED Signs

Channel Letters are individually illuminated letters and graphics. Typically these signs are constructed of aluminum and colored Plexiglass.  With today’s printing technology, we can even apply custom logos and prints to achieve the desired look.  Suncoast Sign Shop provides the fastest turnaround time available without compromising quality.   From shopping malls to high-rises, channel letters are the best way for potential customers to see your business day or night. How are they made?

These letters are comprised of an aluminum U-shaped channel. Once the channel of the letter is built, custom-blown neon glass or energy efficient LED lighting is installed. Then, the colored letter face is attached to the front of the letter. Or, if the letters are reverse-lit, a solid face is used with clear plastic on the rear to give the finished product a “glowing” look. Each letter is then properly wired to a transformer located in the raceway or isolated behind the wall, depending on which method is chosen.

Mounting and Installation

Channel Letters can be installed in one of two ways. They can be mounted either directly to the wall – individually, or mounted on an aluminum rectangular box called a raceway. To mount letters individually, Suncoast Sign Shop first lays out the mounting pattern on your storefront, drills holes for mounting the letters, and runs all of the necessary electric wiring through the wall. This method of mounting Channel Letters also costs slightly more, since raceway mounting takes far less time to install. Raceway mounting is mostly done before we arrive. Each letter is pre-spaced and mounted to the raceway. This allows for easier installation as the one-piece raceway is mounted to the wall rather than each letter.

Insist on UL Listed Signs

Every Channel Letter we build is to UL Standards and local code. Nearly every zoning department requires UL Listed signs – and for good reason. Illuminated signs, especially channel letters, have many electrical connections and utilize a high-voltage system. Improperly installed neon may allow high-voltage electricity to arc, or jump, from the glass to the metal letter itself. This can result in failure of the neon or transformer as well as small fires having the potential to burn your business to the ground. Electric signs need to be properly constructed and wired to prevent any problems or potential dangers. Our neon technician has over 25 years in the sign business with 18+ years dedicated to neon.
